March 23rd, 2012, marks an important and unfortunate anniversary. It will have been exactly two years since President Obama forced his unpopular health care takeover onto the American people. Americans for Prosperity has educated the public about the dangers of government interference in the health care market for the past several years, and now the Supreme Court is set to hear arguments and make a ruling on that very issue.

As you are most likely aware, the U.S. Supreme Court will be considering the constitutionality of several elements of the President's health care bill. This may be our best chance to overturn this offense against our health care freedoms. That's why Americans for Prosperity will be hosting a Hands Off My Health Care rally for free-market grassroots activists from across the country at the Supreme Court on March 27th. Hands Off My Health Care Rally

Over the past few years, Americans for Prosperity has been the premier grassroots group educating the public on the dangers of the President's health care bill. AFP's Hands Off My Health Care Tour criss-crossed the nation in 2009 hosting over 300 events and rallies. Then, in late 2009, over 5,000 activists gathered for AFP's Code Red Rally in Washington.

We must remind the Court and all of Washington that the President's health care takeover is an affront to free-market principles and our Constitution. What Obama forgot to tell you

Tonight at the AFP Watch Party in Tampa, Florida, all eyes will be on President Obama as he gives his State of the Union address. We know we can expect much of the usual rhetoric: lofty promises about creating jobs, governing with responsibility, and making everything fair. But the problem is, Obama's policies don't match his rhetoric. His policies have burdened small businesses with more regulations and government red tape. He has ignored his responsibilities as a leader - allowing the Senate to go 1,000 days without even passing a budget. And when the President talks of fairness, he really means government redistributing wealth, which goes directly against everything this country was founded on.

That's why last week, AFP launched "Obama Forgets," a week-long effort leading up to the State of the Union, to remind citizens about the issues that President Obama always "conveniently forgets" during speeches. From Solyndra cronyism and middle class tax hikes, to the bloated and expensive health care law, the Obama Administration continues to impose big government policies but refuses to take responsibility or meaningful action to help correct the troubled state of our economy.

The week of "Obama Forgets" culminates tonight, as AFP hosts State of the Union Watch Parties all around the country featuring live webcasts from our event here in Florida, and from our event in Virginia, where AFP will be joined by Governor Bob McDonnell. Obama forgets...but we remember!

In just one week, President Obama will deliver his State of the Union speech to a joint session of Congress and the nation.

The President always seems to conveniently forget in his speeches that he has been president for the past three years. We can expect him to refuse to take responsibility for how his big spending policies have contributed to our economic woes. Instead, the President will promote class warfare to gain support for his tax increases and bigger government.

So in advance of the State of the Union speech, Americans for Prosperity is launching "Obama Forgets," a 7-day effort that will highlight some of the Obama Administration's worst offenses to the principles of limited government and free market enterprise.

"Obama Forgets" will lead up to President Obama's State of the Union address, when AFP will host large watch parties throughout the country.

In advance of President Obama's State of the Union address, we're making sure to keep a spotlight on the Solyndra scandal, one of the worst examples of government cronyism in modern history.

With Solyndra, President Obama used our tax dollars to pick winners and losers in the market place in pursuit of his global warming ideology. The result was predictable: failure, wasted tax dollars, bankruptcy for the company and job losses for over 1,000 Americans. This a glaring example of government cronyism as our tax dollars went to support the companies of wealthy donors to the Obama campaign.

The extent of political cronyism continues to be revealed. The latest reports show that the Administration knew that Solyndra could not pay its bills and planned to fire over 1,100 workers, but told the company to hold off until after the 2010 elections. We must tell President Obama: stop using taxpayer dollars to fund green energy scams like Solyndra because American workers are not political pawns.

Grassroots activists and concerned citizens like you make Pennsylvania a stronger, freer, and more prosperous state. Entering the new year, your work will be all the more important as we fight to reduce regulations, lower taxes, and cut government spending in the halls of Harrisburg and Washington, DC.

That is why I am excited to introduce one of our own grassroots activists, Jennifer Stefano, as the new state director of the Americans for Prosperity – Pennsylvania (AFP-PA) chapter.

Many of you already know Jennifer as a part of the AFP family. She was recently appointed AFP-PA's Director of Policy for Labor and Energy after officially joining the chapter last November. Jennifer is also a nationally-known Tea Party activist with her Philadelphia-based organization, The Loyal Opposition.

In those roles, Jennifer made a name for herself organizing her fellow freedom fighters against Obamacare, earmarks, regulatory excess and out-of-control spending. Here in Pennsylvania, she has advocated and fought against the radical left's environmental policies and has gone toe-to-toe with union bosses and elected officials from all sides of the political spectrum to demand an end to the forced unionization of Pennsylvania workers.

You might also recognize Jennifer from the television. Her tenacity and stalwart defense of liberty led her from what was supposed to be a one-time appearance to a regular guest on Fox News and Fox Business News.

I met Jennifer a few years ago when she was a just starting out as an activist and she spoke to a group of our supporters in New Jersey. Not long after that, I stood with Jennifer and the two busloads of committed activists she organized and brought to a street corner in Philadelphia the Saturday before the November 2010 elections as part of AFP's November is Coming Rally.

That day, Jennifer told Fox New Anchor Neil Cavuto and the world that she had a message for President Obama directly from Philly; "Yo, President Obama, don't tread on this momma!' Jennifer and her fellow activists were an integral part of the remarkable change that swept our nation that election and continues on today.

In the two years since the rise of the Tea Party, Jennifer went from a part-time volunteer to a full-time advocate for liberty. A native Philadelphian, Jennifer received her business degree from Pennsylvania's own Villanova University.

Since the age of 12 she worked in her family's small business learning the meaning of hard work (her father started her cleaning the bathrooms) and what individuals can achieve if government does not get in his or her way. Urge House Republicans to “REIN” in Excessive Regulation Tomorrow!

The crucial vote on H.R. 10, the REINS Act, is fast approaching. By voting in favor of this important legislation on Wednesday evening, lawmakers in the House of Representatives can show Americans that they stand for checks and balances and curbing the unending stream of job-killing regulation coming out of federal agencies like the EPA and the NLRB.

Over 200 Republicans in the House have already signed on as co-sponsors to the REINS Act – we can count on their votes tomorrow. However, there are about 30 Republicans that have not formally put their name on the bill, including Casey from right here in Pennsylvania.

There are many reasons why lawmakers choose not to co-sponsor legislation, and it doesn't necessarily mean they oppose it. But it's especially important for conservative and tea party activists like you to remind these lawmakers directly that the REINS Act is such an important vote.

REIN in the bureaucrats!

The Constitution entrusts our elected representatives in Congress with legislative power, but in recent years much of that power has been delegated away to unelected, unaccountable federal bureaucrats.

This week the House of Representatives has an opportunity to fix this. On Wednesday, the House will vote on H.R. 10, the REINS Act, to make it clear that Congress makes the laws in this country, not agency bureaucrats.

The Small Business Administration reported recently that it cost American businesses $1.75 trillion to comply with federal regulations in 2008, more than individual and corporate income taxes combined. With such significant costs, clearly something has gone awry in the process.

The REINS Act helps correct this problem. Whenever an agency seeks to finalize a new "major" regulation – one with an economic impact of $100 million or more – the House and Senate must first vote to approve it, and the President must sign it before it can take effect. Sound familiar? This is how the Framers intended the legislative process to work!

The REINS Act won't stop every costly federal regulation or solve our existing regulatory problems, but it will ensure that when a new regulation takes effect every citizen will know exactly who voted for it and will be able to hold them accountable. We'll soon find out how many Members of Congress are willing to accept that responsibility.

The President came calling...the Grassroots ANSWERED!

The news broke on Monday that President Obama was coming to Northeastern Pennsylvania to promote his "Jobs (killing) Bill". Too bad the Democratic-controlled Senate already voted it down.

For the President to fly to Pennsylvania to talk about a bill that his party already voted down means one thing: he was really here campaigning on YOUR dime.

So we taxpayers had an idea: let's pull a group together to counter the President's big government/big spending message.

Many of us have been down this road together before. The President lands on our turf and we gather our Gadsden Flags and signs and peacefully protest his message...and the media gets to write us off as an angry mob.

But we decided to do things differently this time. This time, we decided not simply to protest the President's stump speech...but to put out our own message of economic freedom and prosperity.

And that message goes something like this: "Mr. President! Please get the government off our backs so we can get back to work!"

The "Jobs Bill" is nothing more than Obama-Style Crony Capitalism and it's time to tell him NO.

Stop the NLRB's "Ambush" on American Jobs!

Despite overwhelming public opposition, the NLRB plans to move ahead with its "ambush" union elections rule. Recently, they announced they will finalize the rule on November 30, which is this Wednesday.

Congress must STOP the NLRB from imposing "ambush elections"! Click here to take action!

Supposedly designed to "streamline" union election procedures and limit unnecessary litigation, the NLRB's rule would in fact cause the timeline for a union election to shrink from an average of 38 days to as little as 10 days. This would effectively deny employers time to reach out to their employees when union organizers can work behind the scenes for months beforehand, and it would deny employees time to consider all the arguments in favor and in opposition to organizing into a union.

The NLRB, currently packed with former union attorneys, believes unions aren't winning enough elections across the country, and are imposing these new rules to dramatically tilt the playing field in favor of their former union pals.

Rep. John Kline (R-MN) and other members of the House of Representatives are fighting back. In October the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act, H.R. 3094, was introduced to put a stop to these "ambush" elections, and now the bill will likely receive a vote in the House as soon as THIS WEEK.

A group of 100 U.S. Representatives sent a letter to the so-called Super Committee urging the handpicked group of twelve legislators to consider "all options for mandatory and discretionary spending and revenues" in order to reach the committee's goal of $1.2 trillion in deficit reduction over the next ten years. In Washington speak, this is code for raising taxes.

Among this list is 40 Republicans whose capitulation encouraging the committee to raise taxes is troubling. We shouldn't be surprised to see 60 Democrats seizing on the opportunity to drive a wedge between conservatives intent on restoring economic growth by keeping taxes low and Republican lawmakers who are starting to throw in the towel on keeping pressure on Democrats to cut spending.

"Occupiers" Attack Defending the American Dream Summit

Want to know what we're up against? And, why we're going to defeat them?

This past weekend over 2,000 leading grassroots activists from across the nation joined us for AFP Foundation's 5th annual Defending the American Dream Summit in Washington, D.C.

During our "Tribute to Ronald Reagan" dinner on Friday night, the protesters with Occupy Wall Street stormed the convention center trying to take away our 1st Amendment rights. Click here to see video!

Their violence, vile language, and disrespect for fellow Americans was outrageous. One of our activists who is wheel-chair bound was denied use of the ramp to depart the center. A 78 year old grandmother from Michigan was assaulted and knocked down. The 7 year old child of one of our AFP Foundation activists was cursed and jostled.

Not surprisingly, our 2,000 plus activists stayed calm and peaceful. The next morning, they poured right back into the Washington Convention Center for the second day of the Summit -- receiving training on how to be even more effective grassroots leaders and hearing from the Great One, Mark Levin, and from Andrew Breitbart. The day before, Herman Cain, Governor Mitt Romney, and America's mayor, Rudy Giuliani, laid out their vision for our nation. Click here to see video of the speakers at the Summit!

I, for one, welcome these Occupy Wall Street protesters. Sure, it's uncomfortable when they're shouting vulgarities at children, destroying property, breaking the law, or spewing hatred. But know this, the Occupy Wall Street protesters offer our nation a crystal clear choice between their way of thinking and AFP Foundation and the Tea Party movement. They possess a vehement hatred of free enterprise and capitalism. They openly call for socialism. We know that free enterprise has lifted more Americans out of the muck and mire of poverty and despair than any economic system in world history. They call for violence, break the law, and disrespect fellow Americans. We respect the law and work to peacefully support sound policy for our nation.

Occupy Wall Street is based on anger and envy. They want to use government to tear down fellow Americans to suit their ideological agenda. Their calling card - class warfare and unrestrained envy. At Americans for Prosperity Foundation, we know that Americans are not envious. They desire only an opportunity to go out and earn their version of the American dream.

So, we can be confident in the face of their hatred. Calm in the face of their law breaking and violence, secure in the knowledge that the American people are with us...if we remain bold in espousing our free market principles and determined in our grassroots activism.

Support Prevailing Wage Reform!

Did you know you're paying more than in property taxes than you should, thanks to a law that was passed in 1961--a law that hasn't been updated to benefit taxpayers since? Well you are, and now is the time to tell your legislator that it's time we updated the Prevailing Wage Laws.

These bills will modernize the Prevailing Wage Laws which will help Pennsylvanians, like you, keep more of your hard earned money in your own pocket. Current prevailing wage laws mandate that contractors must pay wages based on the average union worker's rate of pay. This makes public works projects in townships and school districts cost-prohibitive. Prevailing Wage reform will allow local government to opt out of such mandates, thereby reducing the cost of projects, and laying the ground work for reduced property taxes as well.

Prevailing Wage: First Step to Victory

On Monday, October 3rd, the Pennsylvania House Labor and Industry Committee, led by Chairman Ron Miller, helped to advance a win for taxpayers by voting six prevailing wage reform bills out of committee. These bills will help curtail the practice of setting a "prevailing wage" on public works projects and driving up the cost of those projects for taxpayers.

On Wednesday morning, October 5th, Representative Jim Cox, of the 129th Legislative District, sent a memo to all House members inviting them to co-sponsor his school property tax replacement legislation which is set for an October House introduction. Proponents of such legislation, including 65 taxpayer groups across Pennsylvania (PCTA), along with AFP-PA, are urging legislators to participate.

Little more than a year after the Obamacare health care heist, a federal lawsuit is the only measure in place to hold off a complete government takeover of our health care decisions. Americans for Prosperity, Pennsylvania, believes that a lawsuit alone is not nearly enough to ensure liberty is preserved. We're inviting people to sign the "Hands off my Health Care Petition" and also to contact House Majority Leader, Mike Turzai, and encourage him to bring House Bill 42 to a vote in the House. In its efforts to impose crippling net neutrality regulations on the Internet, the Obama administration turned to the FCC to simply pretend Congress had given it authority to regulate. The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals emphatically smacked down that attempt in Comcast v. FCC, but President Obama and FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, refuse to back down. Republicans rightly rejected President Obama's pet project to subsidize electric vehicles, but now they are dangerously close to doing the same thing with natural gas vehicles. Cut Spending Now Tour

AFP kicked off our Cut Spending Now Tour in Washington State, home of Super Committee co-chairman Sen. Patty Murray and will move across the country coast to coast, educating the public on Washington's disastrous and excessive spending as well as encouraging activists to sign the Cut Spending Now petition, demanding that Congress put America first and Cut Spending Now!

The Super Committee reports on November 23rd and Congress must vote on the Committee's recommendations by December 23rd – there is no time to waste. We must demand that Congress finally cut spending while bringing about fundamental budget reforms that reduce the size of government and to remind President Obama that picking the economy's winners and losers is one reason unemployment is so high and our economy so weak under this administration.

AFP is proud to begin our Quarterly Book Review, highlighting a notable and influential book in the movement towards economic freedom and prosperity in our great country. The first book in this series is Democracy Denied by
Phil Kerpen.

Despite the majority of Americans expressing their discontent with many of the Obama administration's failed policies at the ballot box and despite Congress stopping them from becoming law, President Obama is clearly committed to advancing his failed left-wing policies no matter what. As Obama famously said "There are many ways to skin a cat." Phil Kerpen's book, Democracy Denied, exposes President Obama's gross ignorance of the American people, how he is by passing Congress to implement his liberal policies, and most importantly – how to stop him.

Kerpen explains through research and facts critical issues that you and I care about: issues that affect our pocket books, property, and prosperity such as Cap-and-Trade, Card Check, ObamaCare, Bailouts, the Internet takeover, and more. Democracy Denied explains step by step how Obama is ignoring the legislative process required by our Constitution, cheating the process, and implementing his rejected policies through regulatory organizations such as the EPA and HHS.

Democracy Denied is a vital book to our movement, explaining how federal regulations are killing jobs, closing businesses, and strangling families struggling to get by. Activist of the Month - Carol Del Carlo

Carol Del Carlo of Reno, Nevada has been a lifelong contributor to the conservative cause. Her involvement centers on activism in local and state organizations where she has helped recruit others to the movement, advance conservative ideas, and hold politicians accountable. Most recently, she organized two phone banks from her home which helped our nonpartisan Get-Out-The-Vote effort prior to a special election.

Carol is also active in the Nevada Latinos for Prosperity which promotes voter registration to Latinos in Nevada and helps them become activists too. The group helped register thousands of Latino voters, having individuals fluent in Spanish answer questions and relay key information such as the location of polls to potential voters.

Carol's message to other activists is to remain hands on and involved wherever you are. "Do not stand on the sidelines and watch – get involved by participating – you'll be much more helpful, needed, and appreciated than you think. It only takes one person to make a difference, to wake up others conscience, to motivate others into action, to help put our country on the right track."

Support the Prevailing Wage Act Amendment

This Monday, October 3^rd, the Pennsylvania House Labor and Industry Committee will vote on four measures to amend the Pennsylvania Prevailing Wage Act: House Bills 1271, 1685, 1329 and 1367.

I urge you to call the Labor and Industry Committee Members and kindly encourage them to pass these bills. Click here for contact information.

We at Americans for Prosperity, Pennsylvania fully support the passage of these freedom-restoring bills. Not only will these bills bring an end to costly and discriminatory union practices, they will help boost our sagging unemployment.

Some aspects of the bills would include making worker pay based not soley on the rate of union pay, and allowing private companies to better compete for government funded projects. What would be the benenfit of some of these proposals? They would result in lower costs - allowing more projects and more workers to be hired!
